Jayson Hunter asked:

ss tips are everywhere nowadays. All you have to do is search the internet and you will find the next great weight loss tip. Some of the information is great and some of it is really bad. You like many others may be desperate to lose weight and the Devil knows this so he thought he would mess with your mind a little bit and give you his killer weight loss tips. Losing weight is an emotional effort and we have struggles, we get frustrated, we jump from one healthy weight loss diet to the next. We also try to focus on niche parts of our diet or weight loss thinking that this is going to be the cure to our weight problems. We think we have the problem solved and then up pops another mystery and we jump over to that problem. All we do is end up chasing weight loss techniques and never actually develop a solid nutritional foundation. So what the devil did was he turned the weight loss tips upside down. He figures you will jump from one strategy to the next without ever giving any of them a solid effort or actually develop any good healthy eating habits. If you were to follow the devils advice then he would want you to follow these “killer” weight loss tips. 1. Watch TV and sit on the couch a minimum of 5 hours a day. 2. Eat cakes and cookies 3x a day. 3. Eat fried food at every meal. 4. At every meal eat all carbohydrates. No lean lean protein or fat. Just carbohydrates all the time. 5. Eat late night high calorie desserts every night 7 nights a week. 6. Don’t exercise at all 7. Do as little activity as possible. The more activity you do the less likely you are to lose weight. Follow these “Killer” weight loss tips from the Devil and he says you will lose a lot of weight. I suggest you simply do the opposite of the devil’s weight loss tips. Sometimes we over think weight loss and forget many of the basics of an overall healthy thin body. Think simplicity and make sure you are doing the simple and foundational things when it comes to losing weight. You may surprise yourself and find that you lose weight. Following healthy eating guidelines is step 1 of losing weight. You will never permanently lose weight if you never develop your nutritional foundation. You will go from one strategy to the next. Another problem will appear and you will jump over to that after you have just fixed one problem. You will never actually achieve permanent weight loss. Master the solid nutritional principles that all weight loss has to be built on and then focus on problem areas or accelerating your weight loss. I just gave you seven principles above. What are they you ask? Do the opposite of what the Devil suggests above and you will be on your way to developing your own solid nutritional foundation.

Kevin Gianni asked:

This interview is an excerpt from Kevin Gianni’s The Healthiest Year of Your Life, which can be found at http://thehealthiestyearofyourlife.com. In this excerpt, Jill Fleming shares on weight loss results; how to achieve them and how to keep them.

The Healthiest Year of Your Life with Jill Fleming, a certified nutritionist and author of Thin People Don’t Clean Their Plates.

Kevin: Why don’t you tell me about results? I love hearing results. I love hearing about results. Why don’t you tell me one or two success stories that people that you’ve basically helped them change their lives?

Jill: When I teach 8 week weight loss classes, which I do in my local community, I continue to monitor people after they’ve completed the class and the time they started the class to completed the class and we did this with measuring tapes and weighing and then I continue to track them for two years after taking the classes.

Kevin: Two years? Wow!

Jill: Two years. Yes, because beyond two years people moved and it was hard to get hold of them and then they didn’t want to come in and we had 92% success rate, which is exciting, which is how I knew I needed to put the information into a book, because so many other people could benefit from this information. When I speak in settings with large audiences the funny thing is to me that I’m up there talking to them about how they can improve their health and lose weight and feel better and have more energy and usually about one or two just really intensely take the information to heart and I will get an e-mail a month later that will say I’m 56 years old — I just got this two days ago – - 56 years old and never thought I could lose weight and gave away all of my smaller sized clothes and now lost 25 pounds and I have more energy than I ever had. Everyone’s asking how I did it and it was all because I added breakfast. It was all because I added more fruits and vegetables and had a smoothie and a salad a day. All because and they took away one or two nuggets of what we were talking about where they were weak in their Wellness Triangle and improved it to reach their ultimate goals. They’d given up. They thought they couldn’t do it.

In my local community I had a guy that when through my weight loss class and then he took it again and he took it a third time. He lost 115 pounds and just e-mailed me probably a month ago and said that he’s maintained 105 but the other 10 came back on and he’s going to get that 10 back off again and the interesting thing is he’s within about 10 pounds of his ideal body weight. He was planning to go through gastric bypass. I talked him out of it, because he loves food. He loves to eat as much as I do and I said if you love to eat, you’re really going to be giving up that choice. You’re going to be so limited in the amount and the types of things you can eat that it won’t be an enjoyable lifestyle for you. He agreed. He loves to go out and barbeque. He just has a little bit less of the fattier foods and he really went to town on the vegetables.

Kevin: Okay.

Jill: Exercises everyday and has tons of energy and he is definitely a role model that I keep coming back to him and saying how did you do that again? What are you doing?

Kevin: Yeah.

Jill: Tell me how you did that again? What was the piece of information that stuck out for you? But the interesting thing is that it’s different for every person.

Kevin: Yeah.

Jill: So what Dennis had to do versus what I had to do versus what someone else who wants to lose weight has to do, you can take all the information and see which is going to most affect your life in the positive direction.

Kevin: And how did you measure the 92% success rate? What were the criteria?

Jill: They could not gain more than 2 pounds back of what their final weight was.

Kevin: Wow.

Jill: The majority of people went on to lose even more weight, because they only had them, well we did an 8 week class with a one month follow up, so we only had these people for three months, but the changes that they made in three months were changes that they’ve kept for a life time. They said they could never go back to their old way of eating because they had too much information one and number two, they felt too good.

Kevin: Wow

Jill: And that’s the big thing. It’s not just about looking great in your skinny jeans. It’s about the energy that you have. You don’t need to fill your body with caffeine and chemicals to stay awake and alert. You can do it naturally.

Kevin: Yeah. In a world where the studies say that 98% of people who lose weight gain it back a 92% success rate is just absolutely incredible.

Jill: I think the big part of the success we had with our classes was that I was able to individualize and help people see how they could fit their lives into the plan. Not just switch from their life to the plan, but incorporate little things from the thin choices routine into what they were already doing. If they weren’t eating breakfast that was an easy one and I didn’t give everything all at once. I said lets work on breakfast and water today. Those are the only things that you’re going to work on this week and then come back and we’ll see how that feels and then start adding something else. So I think I think that’s the big part. Looking at the person and seeing where is the stress in their life and if they’re a stress eater, they’re eating for reasons other than true hunger. You’ve got to help that person realize what they can do to get the stress either out of their life or to help relieve it. Maybe they just need to do some meditation or take a yoga class. Their stress comes back under control and they’re better able to make choices in the other areas of their life.

Kevin: And it’s probably not just about — I don’t actually know this. It’s not about what kind of stress or what they’re doing. It’s just about them recognizing it. Correct?

Jill: Yes. Yes and if you’re turning to food, because you’re depressed maybe we need to look at the depression. What is the reason? Is it you’re living in Wisconsin and you don’t have enough sunshine in the winter? Maybe you need a sun lamp as opposed to turning to the food. I went through that about two years ago. We had 25 days without sun and I was just depressed and I was just craving chocolate and I thought what is wrong with me. I gained about 7 pounds and I just couldn’t get out of it. Well, I realized that it was a lack of sun, so I went on a vacation. As soon as we got about the clouds in Minneapolis and the sun was shining in, I was just drawn to the window and I realized that sunshine is a big part of my health, so I needed it. So I regularly schedule vacations in the middle of winter to get out of out of the cold and that helps to keep my stress level down, because I turned to food when I was feeling depressed.

Kevin: It’s amazing how the health clues kind of unveil themselves as you continue on.

Jill: Yeah and it was so interesting to me that no one else was impacted by this lack of sun in my house. I was the only one, so I just thought that I was crazy. I thought do I need drugs? What do I need? Do I need more chocolate? All I could think was that I needed chocolate, because I couldn’t think clearly.

Kevin: Right.

Jill: But it’s amazing, that sun. I thought, okay. That’s what I needed and I’m learning and you learn more about yourself everyday I think. You just have to be open to it and listen to what your body’s telling you.

Kevin: Yeah. That’s incredible advice. Why don’t you –

Jill: It could just have been the vitamin D that I needed, but I’d rather lie on a beach and think about it.

Kevin: Yeah. Get your 15 minutes in.

Jill: Exactly.

Kevin: Where can someone go to find some more information about you and what you – why don’t you tell them what you have to offer?

Jill: Okay. I have a website called simplelifestylechoices.com. You can also get there through thinchoices.com and you can get the book, Thin People Don’t Clean Their Plates, there and it doesn’t say this on the website, but anyone who ever orders a Thin People Don’t Clean Their Plates book, it’s been instructed that they will also get a Lifestyle Diary sent out with that.

Kevin: Oh, cool.

Jill: The Lifestyle Diary is so important and it’s just a small, probably 5 inches by 4 inch book that you can stick in your purse or carry in your back pocket and you just write down what you’re doing. For people who that just want to go to the website and get the free download, it will come out on a full size 8×11 paper but just start writing down what you’re doing, keeping track of it. Track it for a month. You’ll probably after three or four days of tracking see where you can make improvements and once you start doing that it will almost seem too easy and then please do e-mail me at jill@thinchoices.com, because I love the success stories. They just keep me motivated and that’s why I continue to do what I do.

Kevin: Great. Well, Jill, thank you so much for that information. I know how valuable your time is and I want to thank you for sharing this information with us.

Jill: You’re welcome. It’s very its fun. It’s always fun sharing your passion with others that it can help.

Kevin: Yeah and I think what you’ve talked about really seems so easy and I think really it kind of is.

Jill: It actually is so easy. I think we’ve made weight loss much more difficult than it needs to be. Stop dieting. Start listening to your body. It’s truly all about your choices.

Jane Olsson asked:

MYTH: Fad diets work for permanent weight loss.

FACT: Fad diets are not the best way to lose weight and keep it off. Fad diets often promise quick weight loss or tell you to cut certain foods out of your diet. You may lose weight at first on one of these diets. But diets that strictly limit calories or food choices are hard to follow. Most people quickly get tired of them and regain any lost weight.

Fad diets may be unhealthy because they may not provide all of the nutrients your body needs. Also, losing weight at a very rapid rate (more than 3 pounds a week after the first couple weeks) may increase your risk for developing gallstones (clusters of solid material in the gallbladder that can be painful). Diets that provide less than 800 calories per day also could result in heart rhythm abnormalities, which can be fatal.

TIP: Research suggests that losing ½ to 2 pounds a week by making healthy food choices, eating moderate portions, and building physical activity into your daily life is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. By adopting healthy eating and physical activity habits, you may also lower your risk for developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Nathalie Fiset asked:

With all those skinny supermodels made to look so good in fashion magazines, who wouldn’t want to lose several pounds more? The show business industry also proves that those with amazing figures get to have a better chance at fame. Even our small neighborhood doesn’t help so much either; overweight students may not get the best deals.

Most people are even going to extremes to achieve a great figure. They pay a high price for surgery. They take in some diet pills. Some even starve themselves to death just to loose several more pounds quickly.

However, achieving quick weight loss is rarely achievable without some major side effects. You might experience severe headaches or even a much more serious implication if you failed to give your body the enough nutrition it needs.

In this world, image is a very important thing, but you shouldn’t sacrifice so much for it. There are easy and healthy weight loss programs that are available out there. Just a few more weight loss supplements should get you in perfect shape the soonest possible time.

Weight loss supplements could be synthetic or natural foods which you can take to ensure that you’re still getting enough nutrients despite the fact that you’re not eating much. Some supplements could also decrease your appetite by making you full longer. There are even some which can help you build strong muscles.

Are you familiar with GNC products? They used to be the most popular company that has an extensive selection of weight loss supplements. If anybody is into weight loss, he goes to a GNC store and would surely find the products he needs. GNC offers weight loss supplements to muscle builders. Whether you just need to shed off a few pounds or knock off a great deal of fat, you’ll be able to find the perfect supplement to your diet.

Now, with more and more people wanting to get into TV or just needing to grab a little attention, the business for weight loss supplements grew to be a multi-billion dollar industry. In fact, you can find weight loss products from the internet, to a multi level marketing scheme, and of course, to your nearest drugstore.

Just try to go to your nearest supermarket, for example. You’ll find a variety of delicious foods which could supplement your weight loss program. If you’re craving for a bar of Hershey’s, you might want to try some healthy food bars instead. There are pre packed health meals for your convenience.

With the accessibility of the internet, you could easily look for more information on other weight loss supplements. Searching world wide web is definitely a good way to start your weight loss programs. It could give you enough information for the right weight loss supplement to fit your needs.

Before you start taking in just any supplement, you have a few things to take into consideration. Get clearer and realistic goals. Ask yourself what you want to get accomplished. How many pounds do you want to shed off? Or maybe you just need to firm up some of your muscles? It would be best if you could ask the help of professionals in helping you decide what weight loss supplement is right for you.

You could also try out natural weight loss supplements or anorexiants. Since they come from a natural source, they could give you good results without any major side effects when used properly.

Since there seems to be so much weight supplements available, you might find it hard to know which ones are right for you. Advertisements of very thin girls and muscle packed guys should not easily sway you. Just be cautious enough in choosing the weight loss supplements you’re going to use, or you might end up as a victim to a tremendous side effect.

You might usually encounter miraculous pills that promise great results in just a few days. If a product sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Be careful not to fall for a fancy sales pitch. Most weight loss supplements just extract liquid for your body to make you look thinner.

This is not what we want. What we need is to eliminate real fat from our bodies in a healthy way. When you lose weight, make sure that you’ll still be healthy enough to enjoy your new figure.

Try these age-old tried-and-tested tips on weight loss that have stood the test of time:

Your body needs all types of essential nutrients in the right proportion in order to function properly. Thus it is not recommended to omit altogether any food group from your daily diet. However, you can limit the consumption of certain foods or substitute them with healthy alternatives.

White foods like white flour, sugar and white rice contain high amounts of unwanted carbohydrates, which can easily cause weight gain. So either control your intake of white rice and white flour or eat whole grain breads and brown rice.

Switch to low fat powder milk or skimmed milk. Low fat daily products are not only a rich source of calcium but also are low in calories. So you get all the health benefits without adding any extra pounds.

Adopting a positive approach and setting realistic weight loss goals is necessary. Instead of focusing on negative aspects of your diet like fighting the temptation of junk food, concentrate on the positive elements. Repeat and remind yourself of the results and benefits that you will accrue from losing weight. Do not aim to lose more than 2 pounds a week, since this can prove to be very unhealthy for you.

Cooking methods can also make a world of difference. Avoid methods like deep frying, which make elaborate use of oil. Instead use healthy methods like baking and grilling.

Fruits and vegetables are relatively low in calories as compared to grains. So incorporating fresh fruits and raw vegetables as much as possible in your daily diet is a good idea.

Exercising regularly is definitely compulsory if you are serious about shedding extra weight. Walking for a minimum of 45 minutes on a daily basis will help you to cut down on those unwanted calories. Also make it appoint to take a small walk of approximately 15-20 minutes before mealtime. This will not just help you to burn the calories but also suppress your appetite.

Studies indicate that if you eat properly in the morning, you will feel less hungry during the evening. Now wonder, breakfast has been given the credit of being the most important meal of the day. Eating in the morning also ensures that you burn more calories as you carry on with your daily chores.

It is advisable to finish off your dinner by 7:00-8:00 in the evening. Eating very late in the night is not advisable, since this increases the amount of your overall calories. Also, avoid snacking late in the night, or you may face the risk of putting on an additional 300 calories a day.

Incorporate high satiety foods and negative calorie foods in your daily diet. They will not only help you to lose weight but also prevent weight gain in the first place and keep your hunger cravings appeased for longer periods of time.

Dole out smaller servings of food portions and spread your meals evenly throughout the day. This will increase your body metabolism and help to burn the fat deposits easily.

Jules Sims asked:

The debate about whether supplements for weight loss are healthy or not will go on and on for years to come. There are good and bad points to using weight loss supplements. One of the bad points is that once you stop taking them you gain everything back that you lost to begin with.

Most doctors will tell you that weight loss supplements are not necessary and that only a good controlled diet along with daily exercise is the only thing one needs to lose weight. This is true. however with today’s working society with 2 parents working and trying to raise children at the same time who has time for exercise? Who has time to plan good nutritional meals?

I know first hand what this is all about. My wife is probably around 60 pounds over weight. Now before we go any further I would just like to say that I love her just as much now as I did when we first met. Her weight does not bother me. She is a beautiful person both inside and out. But I know inside she is hurting. And for the last several years she has struggled with her weight almost daily. And the biggest problem as I mentioned above is time. Time to prepare good quality nutritious meals both for her self and the children. Time to do sufficient exercise in order to burn off calories. Our schedule is chaotic to say the least. She works from 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM. I work from 3:30 PM till 12:00 AM . When I’m not with the kids she is with the kids. Only on weekends do the kids have both parents home at the same time.

Back to supplements.

First they will not work if you do not get the proper diet and at least exercise once per week. My wife has tried supplements and they did work for her. What supplements do is to help speed up your metabolism rate decreasing the need for daily exercise. They also supplement the nutrition needed that you may not be getting from your diet for proper weight loss. Weight loss supplements actually regulate your blood sugar level, this helps you overcome severe sugar and carbohydrate cravings that sabotage even the most strong-willed weight loss efforts.

So are weight loss nutrition supplements right for you? When my wife lost 40 pounds using supplements she felt great. She was happy and gained allot of self esteem back. Not to mention that she had allot more energy. If you have a hectic schedule and cannot find enough time in the day to prepare proper nutritional meals and get regular daily exercise then I suggest you give supplements a try.

Robin asked:

For any weight loss plan it is important to decide how much weight do you really need to lose? Crash diets, fad diets or sudden bursts of exercise don’t work. The human body is designed for slow and steady changes in terms of food and exercise. If you have not exercised for a long time, do not attempt to run five kilometers every day. Build up your levels of exercise step by step. Understand the nutritional value of your food and consume as much as you can of good nutrition. Before that, you need to know the difference between good nutrition and bad nutrition and always remember food is not equal to fat.

Alternative methods offer many uncomplicated and pain-free ways to stop weight gain and promote weight loss. They have the extra advantage of acting on your mind, feelings and emotions and spirit as well, and therefore controlling the original imbalance that resulted in uncontrolled eating. There are several alternate ways of losing weight. One may have to follow a weight loss plan- here are some tips for determining a weight loss plan that are popular and you will not face any problem in learning them and applying them in your life.

1-Get the Right Information:

The right information is the key to any weight loss plan. Most of us are not used to questioning and probing and that results in our consuming a lot things we should not have. Read nutrition labels, cross check all that you hear from others and do not try any fad diet that comes your way.

2-Do NOT Skip Meals:

Instead eat small frequent meals. This will keep you feeling full and prevent mindless binging. For ideas on what you can eat, try diet plans like the Rapid Weight Loss plan, Desi Diet and Ayurveda Diet plan. These will provide you wholesome meals without starving you.

3-Control your Portions:

Most of us do not know when to stop. Portion control is among the most important tips of weight loss. One way to cut on portions is to use a small plate while eating. Satiety—or the feeling of being full—is governed by the mind. Eating slowly and using smaller dishes makes a significant difference in the amount of food consumed.

You must also make sure that you STOP eating before you are full. We often do not realize how much we have eaten until very late.

4-Stay Motivated:

Keep reminding yourself of the reason you want to lose weight. It may be an important event, the wish to stay fit, or just the feel-good factor. Involve your closest family members and friends and let them also motivate you.

You will realize that motivation can make you do things you thought were impossible.

5-Exercise:

This is essential to any weight loss plan. Make sure that you take up some form of exercise; be it yoga, gym, dance, walking or even skipping. Take the first step if you haven’t started already; and if you have, make sure that you maintain a constant pace or gradually increase the amount of exercise that you do.

Nathalie Fiset asked:

Most people look into the mirror and probably think that they could use to lose a little more weight. A little flab here and there could be eliminated and those extra pounds from that party should be lost ASAP. But how much should you lose?

Losing weight is not just a matter of making the fat and flab disappear when you want to. You’re a human being, not just some clay statue to be scraped and molded. However, this is no excuse for not losing weight the healthy way. And as they say, there’s no time like the present to begin.

For obese people or those whose weight is 20% more than the standard weight for their height and bone structure, it is imperative to start now. Even a decrease in 5-10% of one’s current weight is said to lower the risks of heart ailments, respiratory diseases, high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes and even cancer in obese people.

Obesity nowadays is not just a fashion or social faux pas anymore. It is just not good for the body. There’s such a thing as malnourishment and big bone structure, too. Fat may be the main culprit behind obesity but it also involves an excess in the body weight regardless of the components.

According to the Body Mass Index, men should be within the range of 25- 29.9 while women should have numbers from 18.5- 24.9. Anyone above 30 should think twice before reaching out for that second serving.

Food diets and all sorts of other diets involving ingesting herbal pills or tonics have become quite popular nowadays. However, most of them are not clinically proven or nutritionally balanced. Safe to say, the only real way to lose those extra pounds is to leave the old life of eat- what- you- want and turn to a healthy lifestyle.

Changes in one’s diet should not be abrupt, as this may make matters worse. As they always say, when in doubt about these kinds of things, consult your doctor or nutritionist. The diet is perhaps the most difficult thing to change but only if you make it that way. There are two rules when choosing a menu: first, control your calories through portions and quality; and second, don’t eat what you can’t stomach for long.

The rationale for these two rules is that healthy weight loss is a gradual process involving everything about you- physically, mentally, psychologically, etc. If you don’t like the taste of certain “recommended” foodstuffs, don’t force yourself. In the end, you’ll just grow sick of it and give up altogether. Most dieters don’t get it during their first try so don’t be afraid to mix and match. Here are a couple of tips that may help:

Substitute low- fat varieties for your favorites or staples- the market is saturated with these products. Instead of whole milk, for example, use low fat milk or cream.

Have a diverse range of foods included in your menu. When you’re raising a family too, involve them in your health program as to avoid tempting apparitions of brownies inside the refrigerator. Meat eaters should also know their veggies. Rewarding yourself is fine, just don’t overdo it; better yet, eat “guiltless” goodies. After all, you’re trying to be healthy.

Another way to remove those excess salts and fats from the meal is to remove the sources of additives when cooking. It wouldn’t hurt to experiment with herbs instead of the usual salt, sugar and butter routine. Who knows, you could be the next master chef on the block.

If possible, condition your body to eat a certain amount at a specific time. It would be better to scatter eating portions around the clock over eating at one full go. Savor the little servings that you have instead of thinking about how full or hungry you are. This way, the intervals will allow the body to register that you have enough blood sugar in your system already. It will prevent feelings of deprivation and splurging.

Size and quantity does matter. That’s why you want to lose weight, right? But being healthy does not equal to being thin. It’s useless to eat a dozen low- calorie crackers at one sitting since those calories will only pile up. However, some foods especially those rich in fiber provide more bulk for their size, thus satisfying hunger cravings. These include fruits and vegetables.

Eating healthful food alone will not guarantee much weight loss. It takes a combination of physical exertion to utilize the nutrients and calories you have at hand. The body will adapt so there should be an effort to combat the efficient energy scheme your body will implement once the drop in calories start. The answer? Exercise.

If your reasoning goes along the lines of not having the time or energy left to exercise, you are not serious about being healthy. Forget about strenuous sports if you don’t like them, exercise can be as simple as walking around while shopping, polishing floors or climbing the stairs. Strenuous exercise without proper supervision will only be stressful and result to over-eating. Simple aerobics can do wonders for the figure and the psyche. The endorphins released will make you happy and when you’re happy, it’s easier to stick with the program and avoid backtracking into the couch potato life before.

Losing weight is as hard as a block of granite. When done consistently and correctly, that block can be turned into the healthiest and sexiest sculpture around. Just don’t forget that when you take care of your body, your body will take care of you.

Almost everybody, at some point in their of life, has experienced weight-related problems. Most of us, women and men alike, are not content with what we see. We feel that unless we are wafer thin like the models and celebrities we see on television and magazines, we will never be attractive and beautiful.

On the other hand, there are an increasing number of obese individuals across the world. Becoming overweight has become a trend in both the West and East hemispheres. The increasing popularity of processed and fast foods have exacerbated the obesity situation.

There are many diseases related to being overweight, such as hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea, coronary heart disease, to name a few. Thus, you need to find ways to incorporate weight loss activities and good eating habits to our daily routine.

Before you start any type of diet, however, you need to go to a physician first. The doctor will tell you if your weight loss plan is appropriate for your health condition. Furthermore, the physician will also assist you in determining if you really need to lose weight and how much weight you need to shed. Many people develop eating disorders because they do not visit a doctor before drastically changing their eating habits and starting a diet plan.

If you want to lose weight fast, healthy and permanently, you need to follow the tips below.

Maintain a balanced diet

The reason why many people are overweight is partly due to an unbalanced diet. If you eat too much from one food group, you won’t be able to get the vitamins and nutrients that your body need.

A balanced diet is composed of protein, dairy food, a little bit of fat from healthy oil, fruit and vegetables, and good carbohydrates — at least 5 portions every day. Many professionals suggest a diet that is composed of mostly carbohydrate, moderate protein intake, and a little bit of fat.

However, there are many diets espousing a huge amount of protein intake and a dramatic decrease in carbohydrates. Before you apply such diets to your daily routine, you need to talk with a physician first. This high-protein diet may not be ideal for some people, such as those with kidney disease.

Increase servings of fruit and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals that our body need. Such food supplies us with vitamin A that is good for our eyes, vitamin C that boosts our immune system, beta-carotene that helps protects our body from the damage of free radicals, and nutrients.

Most fruits and vegetables are high in fiber and low calorie, so they also help clean our colon and make us feel fuller. Canned fruits and vegetables are acceptable; however, there is no substitute for the real thing.

Stay away from junk food and sugar-loaded drinks

Try eliminating junk food and soda from your diet for a week or two, and you will surely feel and see the difference. Maybe the reason why it is called junk food is due to its poor nutritional value. Try looking at a junk food’s label, not only is it full of saturated fat, but also usually high in salt or sugar, or both.

Aside from water, most of the things you drink are also loaded with calories. Soda and sweetened fruit juices are mainly sugar. Thus, no matter how little you eat, but if you still drink lots of soda and sweetened beverages, you will still continue to gain weight.

Don’t skip breakfast

Even if you are in a hurry or late for work or school, you need to grab a bite. It would be better if your breakfast is healthy probably an apple, oatmeal and a glass of nonfat milk.

If you miss breakfast, you most probably will feel hungrier the rest of the day. In order for our body function properly, we need energy from the food we eat. If you skip breakfast, or a meal or two, your body’s metabolism will slow down to compensate for the lack of energy supply.

More often than not, people who skip meals, particularly the first meal of the day, will binge later in the day. So, even if you skipped breakfast, you will have a tendency to eat a lot during lunch or dinner.

Start exercising

Many of us spend an extended number of hours in our offices. We get stuck sitting down in front of the computer for more than eight hours. When we get home, we spend another hour or two to check e-mails and chat with friends. Thus, we don’t expend most of the calories from the food we eat and those excess calories go straight to our belly, arms and thighs.

If you want to increase your metabolism, you must start exercising. Brisk walking is a good way to start your exercise routine. If you do not have time to go to the gym, you need to find ways to increase your activities. Try sports activities that you will enjoy boxing, badminton, or spelunking. There are many to fat burning activities to choose from.

The tips above will not let you lose 10 pounds overnight. However, in the long run, such changes will help you become healthier and fitter. The weight loss you will experience will be more permanent.
